At the moment, the Infinity Base can be purchased for the Wii U only with the Disney Infinity Starter Pack …which comes with a hard copy of the game anyway. And of course you’ll need the Infinity Base: the electronic stand where you place your tokens to access the content in-game. You’ll need Play Set pieces to access the Play Sets, character figurines to access the playable characters, and power discs to unlock specific power-ups and other bonus content. Here’s the thing, though: the game is impossible to play without accessories. Much like Minecraft, Disney Infinity offers players a chance to let their imaginations run wild as they build new environments to explore, either alone or with a friend. In Toy Box mode, you can build your own complex worlds and upload them so that other gamers around the world can enjoy your creations. Toy Box mode is where Disney Infinity really shines. In Play Set mode, you can run through various unique game adventures, each specific to a certain movie. There are two main ways to play: Play Set mode and Toy Box mode. Disney Infinity lets gamers play as characters from various Disney movies, including “Frozen,” “Fantasia,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “The Incredibles,” and “Toy Story.” Starting today, Disney Infinity is available as a free download for Wii U from the Nintendo eShop. If it becomes popular, Disney may release the game as a free download to other platforms as well.But don’t be deceived-if you don’t already own the game on Wii, you will still be spending money. This is nothing but a win-win for current and prospective Disney Infinity players. This is a chance for some Wii U owners to get a free game as well. For families and players who are looking to upgrade to the new game, this gives them the chance to bequeath their older toys and bases to relatives and friends, or maybe sell them, so that new players can try it out for the first time. This digital release also comes a month before Disney Infinity 2.0, which will come this September 23. The new digital Wii U version has the Toy Box and all the Play Sets.
This version originally only had Toy Box mode, but the six Play Sets in the console versions were added later via patch. Prior to this, the game was released as a free download for Windows. That pack also came with the base, as well as toys for Captain Jack Sparrow, Mr. Prior to this, Disney Infinity for Wii U was only available in retail stores, as part of the Starter Pack.
